Filmmuseum

The filmmuseum is the largest and most important cinematographic centre in the Netherlands. Its depots house more than 62.000 kilometers of film (roughly 36.000 film titles), spanning the entire history of the moving image: from the early silent films (late 19th century), right up to the newest digital productions.

Under the motto ‘preserve first, then digitize’, the museum started selecting film material eligible for preservation and/or digitization in August 2007. The films spring from different sub collections and mainly comprise Dutch post-WWII productions. Among others there are works from Wim Verstappen, Phil Bregstein, and Theo van Gogh. The filmmuseum also selects films from independent Dutch distributors (e.g. Centrafilm), company archives (e.g. Philips), and film production companies (e.g. Toonder Studio's).

All films preserved for Images for the Future will also be digitized.
