California Permit Practice Test
This California permit practice test contains 19 multiple-choice questions on road signs, driving rules, pavement markings, and California requirements. Every response is marked right or wrong on the spot.
Breakdown of the California Questions
This test runs 19 questions: seven about road signs, six about rules of the road, two about pavement markings, and four about California-specific facts. The sign group tests recognition of shapes and symbols. The rules group covers yielding, passing, speed choice, and following distance. The markings group asks what line colors and patterns mean. The state group is built only from the California facts described next.
California Facts in the Question Pool
Driver licensing in California is run by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). A learner permit is available from age 15 years and 6 months. Drivers under 18 must complete 50 hours of supervised practice. The adult per-se blood alcohol limit is 0.08. Beyond those four facts, this page makes no claims about California requirements.
Taking and Reviewing the Test
Every one of the 19 questions offers four possible answers. The page grades each pick immediately and shows a one-line explanation of the correct answer, so a mistake is corrected while the question is still fresh. When you finish, a full review lists each question with your answer and the right one. Your best score is stored in your browser and stays there for your next visit. There is no clock, and you can retake the test as often as you like. Sign, rule, marking, and state questions are all graded the same way, one at a time.
This page is independent practice and is not affiliated with any DMV or state agency. Rules change; the official California driver manual is the authority on what currently applies.
