New Jersey Permit Practice Test
This free New Jersey permit practice test puts 19 multiple-choice questions in front of you: road signs, traffic rules, pavement markings, and facts specific to New Jersey.
What you’ll be asked
There are 19 questions in four groups. Seven show road signs and ask what they mean. Six cover traffic rules such as right-of-way, turning, and following distance. Four deal with New Jersey specifics, and two with pavement markings like solid and broken lines. The sign group is the largest of the four. Together they cover the ground a new driver is expected to know before supervised practice begins.
New Jersey facts used in the questions
The New Jersey questions rely on three verified facts and nothing else:
| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Licensing agency | Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) |
| Minimum learner’s permit age | 16 |
| Adult per-se blood alcohol limit | 0.08 |
Anything outside that table is outside the scope of this page.
Test format and scoring
The test presents its 19 questions one at a time, four options each. Choose an answer and you learn immediately whether it was correct, along with a one-line explanation of the right choice. Missing a question costs nothing beyond the point; the explanation appears and the test moves on to the next one. When you reach the end, a full review lists every question with your answer next to the correct one. The page remembers your best score in your browser, so you can retake the test and compare runs. No sign-up, no timer, and nothing leaves your device.
This is independent study material, not a product of the New Jersey MVC or any state agency. Requirements are revised from time to time; the official New Jersey driver manual is the final word on all of them.
